Dr. Hannah Janeway is currently an International and Domestic Health Equity and Leadership (IDHEAL) Fellow at UCLA. Her current work is focused on vulnerable populations at the US-Mexico border, utilizing healthcare as a mechanism for social justice, and educating healthcare providers on structural vulnerability and LGBTQIA+ issues. Prior to her career in medicine she worked in education and journalism in Cuba and Bolivia.

She uses her FIX19 talk to recount the tragic shooting of a patient by a police officer within her emergency department and explores how this made her realize her own power. “When we are faced with an injustice, big or small, we have two choices: silence or speech. How do we motivate ourselves and other physicians to chose speech?” She would like you to learn your power and chose speech!
