Dr. Tsion Firew is an assistant professor of Emergency Medicine and Global Health Faculty at Columbia University and she also serves as an advisor to the Minister of Health of Ethiopia on Strategic Partnership and Emergency Care.  She is an advocate for the advancement of High-Quality Global Emergency Medicine and recently, under the Ministry of Health, Dr. Tsion Firew has led the efforts to the adoption of resolution on Emergency Medicine at the World Health Assembly in May of 2019, a big step forward for Global Emergency Medicine.

Growing up in Ethiopia Dr. Tsion Firew didn’t always see the gender inequity that we have in the United States. In her FIX19 talk “Women Leaders in a Man’s House” she shares here experience with female leadership that inspired her to become a leader in medicine.
