Dr. Schmitz is an emergency physician and faculty member in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the San Antonio Military Medical Center and is also an Associate Medical Director with Full Spectrum Emergency Department. She has over 10 years of leadership within the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) and currently serves on the Board of Directors. Dr. Schmitz graduated from the Loyola Stritch School of Medicine and completed her residency at the University of North Carolina, where she served as a chief resident. Balancing her academic career with her family’s military commitment and service, she has become a nationally recognized educator and practiced emergency medicine all over the country. Dr. Schmitz was an active core faculty member and served as the assistant curriculum director for the Wilford Hall Medical Center (WHMC) and Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) Emergency Medicine Residency Program from 2007-2009. She was an Assistant Professor at the Georgetown University/ Washington Hospital Center Residency Program from 2009-2011 and served as an Assistant Professor and active core faculty member at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) Emergency Medicine Residency Program from 2011-2012 before joining the University of Texas Health Science Program as an Associate Professor and Associate Program Director. Her passion is clinical teaching, mentoring students and residents, and developing young physician leaders.
