Dr. Acholonu is the Vice Chair for Education and the Co-Director of the Leadership, Engagement and Diversity (L.E.A.D.) Program in the Department of Pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore. She is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and an attending physician in the Division of Hospital Medicine. A native of West Philadelphia, she earned her medical degree from the MCP Hahnemann School of Medicine (now Drexel University College of Medicine). She subsequently completed her residency and chief residency at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She joined Einstein and CHAM in June 2017 after being at the NYU Langone Medical Center for 12 years where she served as the Residency Program Director and then the Associate Dean for Diversity & Academic Affairs. In her roles at CHAM, she works with her departmental colleagues to establish a systematic approach to topics such as evaluations and feedback. In addition, she has a passion for the integration of diversity, inclusion, and equity topics as they relate to patient care, education, recruitment and retention. A founding member of TIME’S UP Healthcare, she recognizes the importance of incorporating topics such as equity and bias into education for trainees as early as possible and in a longitudinal fashion.
