At ACEP2016 in Las Vegas, we asked visitors to our booth to submit an idea or problem they would like to see tackled by the FemInEM team.  We received many great ideas, thank you to all of you who submitted!  We have chosen three winners, read more about them and their ideas below!

Election Reflections

Alexandra Asrow, MD is an attending physician in Emergency Medicine at NorthShore University Healthsystems, a teaching affiliate of the University of Chicago in the northern suburbs of Chicago, as well as the American College of Emergency Physicians Ambassador to Italy.  At ACEP2016, Dr. Asrow asked FemInEM to provide reflections on the United States presidential election.  There have been several reflection pieces on FemInEM over the last few months.  Stay tuned for Dr. Asrow’s reflections in a post next week!

Bringing Female Researchers Together

Julie Cooper, MD is an academic faculty member at Christiana Care Health System and a Clinical Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Jefferson University. Her area of interest is in Supportive and Palliative care and teaching communication skills.  Dr. Cooper thinks there might be a role for FemInEM to help researchers network with others doing similar work. “I work at an independent academic medical center and while I don’t do externally-funded research we do offer an excellent and supportive site for clinical and education research. I’m the only faculty member working in my area and have benefited greatly from networking at national meetings to collaborate. It would be great to connect with other female researchers to collaborate and increase the chances of being able to publish with more robust work.” We love this idea Dr. Cooper and look forward to finding a way to put your idea into action.

All Women Conference!

Melinda Weiss, DO is a fourth year OBGYN resident who attended ACEP2016 with her partner, and emergency medicine resident! She thought FemInEM should work toward creating an all female conference!  She was envisioning a conference that would bring together women practicing emergency medicine and focus on many issues including leadership styles, women specific wellness, negotiating strategies, mentorship (both within and outside the specialty) and much more.  Great minds truly must think alike, as shortly after ACEP, the FemInEM team began to develop FIX 2017: The FemInEM Idea Exchange, a conference we are sure will live up to Dr. Weiss’s dream!
