Congratulations Dr. Basmah Safdar on receiving the AWAEM Mid-Career Faculty Award! This award is given “to honor mid-career female faculty who have shown promise for significant career achievements in emergency medicine through research, education, service, advocacy, or administration, and/or who have worked to promote the role of women in academic emergency medicine.”

Dr. Safdar is  an ardent and nationally recognized advocate for sex and gender research in emergency medicine and supporting women in medicine. Her life and work demonstrate an exceptional set of skills and passions. She has published seminal work in the field, raising awareness about sex-differences in nontraditional forms of heart attacks. Dr. Safdar is Director of the Yale Chest Pain Center and her current research focuses on exercise and microvascular disease. She is also past president of AWAEM, using this platform to collate faculty development resources for mid-career women faculty and using data to advocate for women’s careers. An extraordinary mentor, Dr. Safdar is also the recipient of the AMA Joan F. Giambalvo Fund for the Advancement of Women Award.
