Congratulations to Dr. Jean Sun Scofi for earning the AWAEM Outstanding Resident Award! This award honors a female EM resident who has shown promise for significant career achievements in emergency medicine through research, education, service, advocacy, or administration, and/or who has worked to promote the role of women in academic emergency medicine.

Dr. Sun Scofi attended the California Institute of Technology where she studied Biology and English Literature. She then completed a Masters in Physiology and Biophysics at Georgetown University, followed by her medical degree at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine. She is finishing her residency in emergency medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City and will pursue a fellowship in Administration and Leadership at Yale New Haven Hospital and an Executive MBA at the Yale School of Management.

During residency, she was a Chief Resident, Resident Member of the SAEM Board of Directors, Chair of the RAMS Education Committee, and Chair of the Resident and Student Advisory Committee for SAEM. During her time in residency, medical school, and undergraduate studies, she was a chief/president/director of over 10 substantial groups/organizations. She is the definition of a leader.

“If we had an election for president of the residency, Dr. Sun would get all the votes. She is, by far, the most respected resident in the program. She has impacted all their lives for the better. She is not only gifted, but also tireless in her devotion to improve the lives of her fellow residents, improve the status of the residency program, and make an impact at the national level for her colleagues.”

Congratulations Dr. Sun Scofi!
