Dr. Lisa Moreno-Walton is Professor of Emergency Medicine at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center-New Orleans.  She is also the Director of Research, Director of Diversity, and Director of HIV and HCV Testing. In addition to the clinical practice of EM she is a well-funded researcher and an award winning educator.  Oh, and she was just recently elected as the Secretary- Treasurer of the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine.

We are going to tell you why this is a big deal.   Lisa was the first WOMAN and the first ETHNIC MINORITY (she is Latina) ever to be elected to the AAEM Executive Board.

Here is a short list of what she has accomplished since joining the board as a member at large last year.

  • She proposed and implemented Women in EM interest group
    • She currently serves as it’s Board Liaison
  • She recently proposed a new Diversity and Inclusion Committee
    • Further broadening the scope of the Academy’s membership to better reflect today’s diverse EM practice and to increase our appreciation of diversity and cultural competency, supporting our commitment to every patient’s right to the highest level of care.
  • Along with colleagues, she worked with the Polish Society for EM to develop a Young Physician Section
  • She is working with the Lebanese Society to develop a strong chapter committed to Board Certification and Residency training
  • Worked with Polish residents to establish their Society.
  • Served on the Scientific Committee ofMediterranean Emergency Medicine Congress and served as its abstract committee chair.
  • This involved reviewing over 600 abstracts from >60 countries, setting up scientific sessions and engaging representatives from Puerto Rico, Central America and the Middle East to serve as speakers and moderators.
  • This year, she has been appointed Executive Chair of the upcoming Mediterranean Emergency Medicine Congress 2017.  (And she is looking for speakers for this meeting, hint hint!)

Anyone that knows Lisa knows she is capable of anything.  We are happy to profile her latest accomplishment in the Honors section, but have a feeling this won’t be the only time she is here!

Dr. Moreno- Walton we are very proud to call you a FemInEM!
