Congratulations to Dr. Resa Lewiss for winning the 2016 SAEM Academy of Emergency Ultrasound (AEUS) Education Award.  Dr. Lewiss is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine and Radiology at the University of Colorado.

Started in 2009, the AEUS Education award honors an academy member for their educational achievements.  She won the award based on more than 15 years of outstanding work promoting the mission of the academy.

Resa is a former AEUS president.  She founded and continues to help run SonoGames, the largest ultrasound competition in the world.  She chaired and coordinated development of educational and competency guidelines for EM residents, fellows, and pediatric emergency medicine.  She continues to serve as the AEUS liaison to ABEM task force exploring subspecialty certification for clinical ultrasonography.  She lectures and teaches point-of care ultrasound to every level of leaner, both nationally and internationally.  Her TEDMed talk  “How An Old Technology Became A Disruptive Innovation” (online athttp://bit.ly/1omnPBj), perfectly describes the field of point-of-care ultrasound.  Her take away quote form the talk is “Disruptive innovation is about vision first, not technology first”.

Congratulations to a true disruptive visionary.  Her tireless dedication and enthusiasm make this award long overdue.
