Congratulations to Dr. Rosemarie Fernandez for winning the 2016 AWAEM Outstanding Research Award.  Dr. Fernandez is an associate professor of emergency medicine at the University of Washington and has focused her research on medical education/simulation and patient safety.  She has received the Emergency Medicine Patient Safety Foundation’s Fellowship Award and is known nationally for her work.  She has accrued 25 peer reviewed publications and over three million dollars in funding over the past five years.

Currently, she serves as the Director of Simulation at the University of Washington Division of Emergency Medicine and also Associate Co-Director for Education of the University of Washington’s Center for Scholarship in Patient Care, Quality and Safety.

In his letter of support for the nomination of Dr. Fernandez for this award, Dr. Robert L. Wears states, “Her high quality work reflects positively on our specialty and directly contributes to the advancement of women in academic emergency medicine.  She will be an ideal role model for women contemplating research careers in academic emergency medicine.”
