Congratulations to Dr. Tigist Tesfaye for receiving the AWAEM/GEM Global Travel Grant!  This award is granted support a female Emergency Medicine physician from a low or middle income country (per World Bank classification) who has shown dedication to and potential for significant career achievements in emergency medicine through research, education, service, advocacy, or administration.

Dr. Tesfaye is a young, established and highly skilled Emergency and Critical Care physician from Ethiopia. She graduated in 2017 from Addis Ababa University and is currently working at St. Peter Specialized Hospital as the Emergency and Critical Care Directorate Director and the sole Emergency and Critical Care physician. Despite her busy schedule she has been advocating for her field both nationally and internationally. Nationally she has opened the first ever emergency room at the Unity Park and established the emergency department in her hospital. Internationally, she was selected out of 2500 applicants to participate in the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders Initiative 2019 where she advocated well about Ethiopia and Emergency Medicine as well.
