Congratulations to Dr. Ynhi Thomas on earning the 2018 AWAEM Resident Travel Scholarship. Dr. Thomas is a resident at Baylor College of Medicine. She graduated from Medical School at the University of Alabama where she received both an MD and a MPH.  She was the first to graduate from college in her family, was a finalist for the Rhodes Scholarship, and received an Engineers without Borders Humanitarian Award. Dr. Thomas founded Rethink Coverage, a nonprofit that collected stories from patients in the Coverage Gap, using these as a catalyst for change. Through op-eds, radio, and meeting with legislators, she disseminated these stories, culminating to being a TEDxBirmingham speaker.  Dr. Thomas co-founded a women’s group, Females in Emergency Medicine, in residency, and is co-writing policies for women residents through her EMRA representative role and is dedicated to changing the platform for success for women in Emergency Medicine.
