Michele L. Dorfsman, MD, was chosen to be the next Program Director of the University of Pittsburgh Emergency Medicine Residency. She will start serving in this role July 1, 2016, and is currently transitioning into the role. The Pitt program began in 1981. Michele is only the third person since the program’s inception to serve as Program Director. Most importantly (to us) she is the first woman to serve in this role at Pitt.

Michele attended Brown University for her undergraduate years, attended the University of Pennsylvania for medical school, and came to Pittsburgh in 1997 as a resident. She found it to be a unique and inspirational place. She has spent her entire post-residency career with the Pitt program because she feels confident that it is one of the best in the country, largely due to both the excellence of the faculty and the outstanding trainees. She has been lucky to train and serve as Assistant Program Director for 10 years under the tutelage of perhaps the most established and senior program director in the country. Continuing on in Abby’s footsteps in the role of Program Director is a privilege and will definitely be one of the highlights of her career.
