The University of Chicago’s Department of Pediatrics, Section of Emergency Medicine, is searching for a full-time faculty member at any rank. The appointee will serve as a Pediatric Emergency Medicine Physician in our Pediatric Level I Trauma-accredited emergency room at The University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital. In addition, they will develop an academic niche that builds on our faculty expertise in medical education, simulation, quality improvement, health equity and bioethics research, health outcomes, disaster preparedness, child abuse, trauma, or other areas that relate to the mission of the Department of Pediatrics and Comer Children’s. Other duties will include teaching and supervision of trainees and students, and scholarly activity. Academic rank and compensation (including a generous package of fringe benefits) are dependent upon qualifications. We especially welcome applicants with experience in level I trauma, medical education, simulation, and health outcomes research.

UChicago Medicine is located on the main University campus in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood. Comer Children’s Hospital is a state of art free standing children’s hospital within the medical complex. The Pediatric Emergency Room treats more than 35,000 patients a year, and is the only Level I Pediatric Trauma Center on the south side of Chicago. It is a newly renovated free-standing state–of-the-art facility with 22 general exam rooms, two procedure rooms, two triage rooms and two trauma/resuscitation rooms. The Section of Pediatric Emergency Medicine is committed to medical education, clinical research, patient care, and community service. The section has a full accredited fellowship program and a nurse practitioner program. Its faculty members are actively involved in scholarship and training. The program has active pediatrics, med/peds and emergency medicine residencies programs, and precepts University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine medical students.

Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must: 1) have a medical doctorate or equivalent, 2) hold or be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Illinois, and 3) be Board certified or eligible in Pediatric Emergency Medicine.
