Emory University’s Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking a full-time faculty member to serve as Director of Emergency Medicine Ultrasound. Applicants are required to be board certified in emergency medicine, ultrasound fellowship trained, and eligible for medical licensure in the State of Georgia. The successful candidate must possess leadership skills and a commitment to excellence in patient care, clinical operations, scholarship, and education. Responsibilities include ultrasound operations, quality oversight, student and resident education, oversight of an ultrasound fellowship and the Sections educational programs, and participation in scholarly activity. Academic rank is dependent on qualifications.The Emory Emergency Medicine residency program established in 1976 has a rich history as one of the oldest emergency medicine programs in the country. The Section of Emergency Ultrasound in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Emory University is dedicated to the mission of educating our medical students, residents, and fellows, promoting research and scholarship of ultrasound, and incorporating bedside ultrasound into clinical care using best practices. The successful applicant will join an academic faculty who are active in research, medical education, simulation, toxicology, EMS/prehospital medicine, global health and observation medicine. The Emory Department of Emergency Medicine directs four academic clinical sites with various learners: Emory University Hospital, Emory University Hospital Midtown, Grady Memorial Hospital and the Atlanta VA Medical Center and two primarily clinical sites at Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital and Emory Johns Creek Hospital.

Specific responsibilities:
Oversees primary ultrasound faculty and an Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship
Oversees educational and research infrastructure
Establishes curriculum for student ultrasound education
Oversees emergency ultrasound in four high acuity EDs in metro Atlanta
Oversees the EM residents’ ultrasound training which includes a dedicated rotation in the intern year and selective opportunities to upper-level EM residents
Oversees the ultrasound training of electives for students (MD, PA, and NP) and non-EM residents
Supervises the Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship Director and Director of Resident Ultrasound Education
Provides EM faculty training
Supervises credentialing of emergency medicine faculty
Oversees maintenance and proper function of ultrasound equipment
Serve as an ambassador to other departments ultrasound education programs
Supervises emergency ultrasound research opportunities
Participates in ACEP or SAEM ultrasound sections
Coordinates billing and coding of emergency ultrasound studies

Skills & Requirements:
EM Board Certification
Completion of an Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship
Three years of clinical experience since residency
Experience in emergency ultrasound education
Participation in regional or national Emergency Ultrasound community
