Overview:
Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine (WMed) is recruiting an emergency medicine faculty member to serve in the newly developed role of Ultrasound Director. The Director will support the emergency medicine residency program and the expanding activities of the Department of Emergency Medicine. WMed is one of the newest medical schools in the U.S. and hosts a large, well-established emergency medicine residency program, as well as fellowship programs in EMS, medical simulation, sports medicine, and hospice and palliative medicine.
Responsibilities:
The Ultrasound Director will lead the development and enhancement of the department’s POCUS educational programs for our residents, students and faculty, and collaborative endeavors with other departments. He/she will maintain an active emergency medicine practice while enjoying substantial protected time for collaborative projects.
Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
• MD/DO Degree
• Completion of an accredited Emergency Medicine Residency Program
• Completion of an Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship Program and/or qualifications to meet the requirements for the AEMUS Focused Practice Designation of the American Board of Emergency Medicine
• Eligible for academic appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor or higher by the School of Medicine
• Medical licensure in the State of Michigan (MD/DO)
• Board certified / board eligible in Emergency Medicine (if board eligible, must achieve board certification within three (3) years)
Licenses, Registrations, Certification:
• Board certification/preparation in Emergency Medicine by either ABEM or AOBEM
• AEMUS Focused Practice Designation of the American Board of Emergency Medicine

Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine (WMed) is an exciting environment to pursue an academic career. There are more than 200 residents and fellows in 14 residencies and fellowships programs. To support its mission to educate and inspire lifelong learners, WMed has Joint Accreditation for interprofessional continuing education, which incorporates accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education.
WMed Health is the clinical practice of the medical school with more than 300 providers offering comprehensive primary care and specialty services in several locations throughout Kalamazoo, Portage, and Battle Creek. The Department of Pathology faculty serve as the Office of the Medical Examiner for counties throughout Michigan and northern Indiana.
The W.E. Upjohn M.D. Campus located in downtown Kalamazoo serves as the primary educational facility with faculty and administrative offices, student study and social spaces, team-based learning halls, a state-of-the-art Simulation Center accredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare, basic science research labs, as well as toxicology and forensic pathology labs.
