The University of Chicago’s Department of Pediatrics, Section of Pediatric Emergency Medicine in the Biological Sciences Division is searching for an associate or full professor, and invites applications.

As a full-time faculty member, the successful applicant will contribute to patient care, medical education, and scholarship, and join a vibrant, diverse, and distinguished community of faculty colleagues and learners in UChicago Medicine, the Biological Sciences Division, the Pritzker School of Medicine, and the University of Chicago and its affiliates.

As Section Chief, the successful applicant will lead the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Section with the overarching goal of enhancing its clinical and academic excellence. A tradition of excellence in patient care, basic, clinical, and translational sciences, combined with the strengths of one of the world’s top academic institutions provides the foundation for a career as an academic physician. Other duties will include training and supervision of medical students, residents, and fellows.

We seek applicants who are accomplished program builders and leaders with strong administrative, operational, and financial knowledge and collaborative skills, and experienced mentors willing to pursue the strong opportunities for academic and clinical development of the faculty and staff of the Section and the Emergency Room.

Additionally, they may be clinical researchers who will focus on clinical trials, quality and/or health outcomes, investigator-initiated clinical trials, and/or multi-center and UC-based IRB approved studies in the Section.

The UCM has been at the forefront of medical care since 1927. Located in historic Hyde Park, the primary medical campus includes the Center for Care and Discovery, Comer Children’s Hospital, Bernard A. Mitchell Hospital for adult inpatient care, and the Duchossois Center for Advanced Medicine (DCAM) totaling more than 550 beds in service and net patient care revenues over $1.4
billion. Plans are underway for a new trauma program and an additional 150-bed patient tower. New ambulatory facilities are located in Orland Park and the South Loop, and the Ingalls Health System has recently integrated into the network.

Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must: 1) have a MD or equivalent, 2) be Board certified in Pediatrics or Emergency Medicine, and 3) be Board certified in Pediatric Emergency Medicine.
