The University of Chicago’s Department of Pediatrics, Section of Pediatric Emergency Medicine, is undergoing a significant expansion of its Section of Pediatric Emergency Medicine. We are seeking a pediatric emergency medicine physician to lead the Pediatric Emergency Medicine program with the overarching goal of enhancing its clinical and academic excellence. The successful candidate must have a proven record of academic accomplishment, as well as a commitment to outstanding patient care and medical education, and be an accomplished program builder. This position requires a collaborative physician leader who is an experienced mentor willing to exploit the strong opportunities for academic and clinical development of the faculty and staff of the section and the emergency room.
The University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital is a 155-bed facility with state-of-the-art technology and amenities that offers world-class medical care to children from around the Chicagoland area and across the globe. The Pediatric Emergency Department, the only Level I Pediatric Trauma Center on the south side of Chicago, treats approximately 30,000 patients per year. It is a free-standing facility comprised of 22 general exam rooms, two procedure rooms, two triage rooms and two trauma/resuscitation rooms.
The next Chief of the Section of Pediatric Emergency Medicine is anticipated to be an accomplished clinical or translational researcher with a focus on new diagnostics or therapeutics, clinical trials, quality and/or health outcomes. (S)he will not only implement investigator-initiated clinical trials in specific areas of Pediatric Emergency Medicine, but also participate in multi-center and University of Chicago-based IRB approved studies in the section.
The new Chief must be committed to promoting and increasing investigator-initiated scholarship and engaging in the training and professional development of Pediatric Emergency Medicine fellows, residents, and students.
Prior to the start of employment the successful candidate must: 1) have a MD or MD/PhD, or equivalent, 2) hold or be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Illinois, 3) be board certified in Pediatrics or Emergency Medicine and also be board certified in Pediatric Emergency Medicine, and 4) qualify for a faculty appointment.
