Bio
Dr. Aikta Verma is the Chief of the Department of Emergency Services at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. As the first woman in this position (as well as the youngest, and first person of colour), she strives to address issues around bias, diversity, equity, and wellness. She completed a Master's Degree in Health Administration, with a specific interest in Quality Improvement, and she conducted ground-breaking research about push-alert notifications to ED physician smartphones. She is an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto, and has held several leadership roles in the University of Toronto Emergency Medicine residency training program, including Assistant Program Director.
When she is not at work, she spends time with her husband, two-year-old son, and their two cats. She loves travelling anywhere warm, fine wines, British panel shows, and spa days.
