Bio

Alyssa M. Burgart, MD, MA is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology, Division of Pediatric Anesthesia, at Stanford University, and a core faculty member at the Stanford Center for Biomedical Ethics. She is Medical Director of Clinical Ethics and Co-Chair of the Ethics Committee at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital. She provides clinical and research ethics consultations, and serves as the ethics advisor to Packard’s Pediatric Heart Failure and Transplant and Maternal Fetal Medicine teams. Clinically, Dr. Burgart specializes in anesthesia for pediatric liver and kidney transplantation. To promote patient and staff safety, she champions a Behavior Assessment Program for the workup and accommodation of patients with severe behavioral challenges. Her interests include communication in serious illness, disability rights, reproductive rights, workplace safety, informed consent, organ transplantation, and excellence in ethics consultation.
