Bio

Dr. Austin graduated medical school from the University of Iowa. She completed emergency medicine residency at Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD). In 2016, she deployed to Iraq as part of a Shock Trauma Platoon. She returned to NMCSD and was the Assistant Program Director and Simulation Director of the Emergency Medicine residency program.
She was the first female emergency medicine physician to be stationed at Navy Trauma Training Center (NTTC) at LA County + USC, one of the busiest trauma centers in the United States. As the emergency medicine physician and simulation director at NTTC, she trained hundreds of military medical personnel in the latest trauma advances to prepare them to provide medical care in austere environments.

Dr. Austin has completed a Certificate in Foundations in Health Professions Education from the Uniformed Services University. She also is a certified Healthcare Simulation Educator®, granted by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. She has experience in developing and executing a variety of educational and simulation based curricula. Dr. Austin currently works as an emergency physician and simulation educator at University of California San Diego and Veterans Administration San Diego Healthcare System.
