Heike was one of the first class of Emergency Physicians in Africa, graduating from the University of Cape Town in 2007. She is currently Head of Emergency Medicine Education at the University of Cape Town, directing the largest EM training program in Africa at the University of Cape Town/Stellenbosch University.

She is President of the African Federation for Emergency Medicine and is passionate about developing Emergency Care systems and human resources in Africa. She is also a health educationalist and completing research on assessment in Emergency Medicine. Her interests include EM development in LMIC, EMS, Disaster Medicine and Postgraduate education. She is also willing to speak at length about her dog.
