Today we find ourselves on the frontlines facing a pandemic, facing COVID. Our healthcare system is stretched. We are finding our own health and the health of our families may be in jeopardy. We may be faced with decisions we never thought we would make when we took our Hippocratic Oath to do no harm. How do we remain “well” when on the wards facing COVID? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some tips to maintaining our wellness:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Meet\nyour basic needs.<\/strong> Eat, drink and sleep. Take care of your body. Make time for\nexercise, rest, relaxation.<\/li>
  2. Schedule\nsome down time to unwind.<\/strong> Read a book. Talk with a friend. Do something\nthat helps you relax.<\/li>
  3. Connect\nwith colleagues. <\/strong>Sometimes listening to one another can be therapeutic. This also\ngives you a chance to tell your stories.<\/li>
  4. Find\nsomething to be positive about.<\/strong> Compliment someone. Find\nsomething to be grateful for. Share positivity and gratitude as much as\npossible. <\/li>
  5. Stay\nup-to-date with what\u2019s going on.<\/strong> Policies and procedures\nare changing quickly, which can be more stressful. Find a source of information\nthat you trust and stay up to date with that.<\/li>
  6. Disconnect<\/strong>. Turn\noff social media and the news when necessary. It can get overwhelming. <\/li>
  7. Honor\nYour Service <\/strong>– you are fulfilling a NOBLE calling, despite the chaos. <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

To\nassist nurses, doctors, and social workers cope with the stress, anxiety, and\npressure of fighting the coronavirus, medical and healthcare workers can now\naccess free online therapy. To sign up, healthcare workers should register via\nthe app (Google Play<\/a>orApp Store<\/a>) orwebsite<\/a>by\nproviding verification with their NPI and state of residence. Once certified,\nthey will gain access to our Unlimited Messaging Plus plan.<\/li>
            3. COVID19\nMaternal Wellbeing Facebook Group<\/a> – The\nCOVID-19 Maternal Well-Being group was created by three board-certified women\nphysicians – an Obstetrician Dr. Tara Abraham, a Pediatric Critical Care\nPhysician Dr. Anita Patel and a Perinatal Psychiatrist Dr. Pooja Lakshmin. We\naim to provide evidence based information for women who are considering\npregnancy, trying to conceive, going through fertility treatments, pregnant or\npostpartum and to create a safe space and community for women during this time\nof difficult and uncertainty.<\/li>
            4. COVID19\nPhysician Group<\/a> – An inclusive resource for\nphysicians to share front-line clinical information about COVID19 as it becomes\navailable. <\/li>
            5. PMG COVID19 Subgroup<\/a> – A COVID19 subgroup of\nthe Physician Mom’s Group. <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

              Feed Yourself:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

              1. SweetGreen<\/strong> plans to\noffer free meals to healthcare workers. “In the midst of the current\ncrisis, we\u2019re dedicating our Outpost operations and teams to support those on\nthe front lines by delivering free, fresh salads + bowls to hospitals in the\ncities we serve.”<\/li>
              2. Don’t\nmiss out on coffee. Starbucks <\/strong>is serving free tall hot\nor iced coffee to all health care workers through May 3.<\/li>
              3. Krispy\nKreme<\/strong> may not scream “wellness” but it is comfort food… They are offering a free dozen donuts on Mondays through May 11 to\nanyone who works in healthcare who shows up with their employee badge.<\/li>
              4. UberEats\nand DoorDash have lifted delivery fees, so don’t cook after your long day. Get\nfood delivered! And they will leave it at your door to minimize contact during\nsocial distancing! <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

                    For our medical students who may have had rotations and classes cancelled, see if you can babysit for a healthcare worker. Babysit for one of the physicians on the front lines. Many medical schools are setting up programs for childcare, which is so important to allow our healthcare workforce to show up at the hospital. See if you can set one up at your hospital. You never know when the connections you make during this time could help you in the future! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
