She grew up in New Jersey, received her BA in biology at Carleton College in Northfield, MN, and then attended the Rowan School of Osteopathic Medicine in Stratford, NJ. During her residency at SUNY Stony Brook, she became involved in emergency medicine development in Nicaragua, and with co-resident Breena Taira, MD FACEP MPH, she is a founding member of Project SEMILLA [http:\/\/projectsemilla.org\/]. She continued her involvement with SEMILLA while pursuing a fellowship in global health and international EM at George Washington University in Washington, DC. She also had the opportunity to teach residents at multiple sites in India under mentor Kate Douglass, MD MPH. After spending two years in community EM in Baltimore, she returned to her roots in NJ. She lives in Jersey City with her husband James, and two young daughters, Beatrice and Ida.
