FIX Focus Workshops

Workshop participants will choose 3 of the following workshops.  Workshop selection will occur after August 1, 2017

Feedback on your presence and speaking style

Faculty: Angela Lussier

This workshop module will allow participants to discuss their personal hurdles with public speaking, strategies for performing well in specific public speaking settings relevant to the participants, and practice a brief presentation and receive immediate feedback from workshop faculty.

Working Smart Philosophies for the Physician Woman

Faculty: Flavia Nobay MD

Is meaningful, thoughtful, and high-impact work possible in our social milieu of constant messaging and task interruptions, and for women who are juggling complicated, overloaded lives? This workshop will take the principles of the best-selling book, “Deep Work,” and apply them to our non-clinical professional lives, reclaiming space for focused, high-intensity productivity.

Own Your Finances

Faculty: Adam Brown, MD and Michael Kass

This module will provide an overview of several major financial topics essential to professional women: retirement planning; negotiating to optimize your productivity and compensation: loan repayment; and establishing a trust.

Building Your Personal Leadership Brand

Faculty: Deborah Munhoz

An increasing number of women are assuming roles in leadership and making significant contributions.  So why are they so frustrated?  Often women hold the belief that they can’t be themselves and make the difference they want to make.  This sense of conflict between being authentic and behaving in a manner assumed to be more acceptable negatively impacts their success and quality of life. The risk to the individual and the organization or a cause they support is not offering the full value of their perspective, skills and commitment. In this highly interactive 90-minute workshop, participants will be guided through a five-step process to gain clarity on how to create value in the eyes of their organization in a way that reflects personal values and strengths.

Speak to the World

Faculty: Christine Ngauriya MD, Jordana Haber MD, Faith Ho MD

Women’s voices are missing from public news and discourse. The workshop module is designed to equip women to share their voices, with an overview of the structure of a classic op-ed, how to link your passion to current events, and tips on getting published. We will also discuss identifying and working with co-authors. For those new to or lacking confidence in writing, we will highlight the process of diving in for the first time and building confidence in the writing process over time.

Speak to the Science

Anna Marie Chang MD, Teresa Chan MD, Ellen Weber MD

For those in academia, increasing publications is a perennial benchmark. We will demystify the process of publishing regularly, reviewing the standard anatomy of a scholarly paper, how to improve the efficiency of the writing process, common pitfalls, options for publishing non-research academic papers, and how to respond to a journal’s “revise and resubmit” request.

The FIX IT Bar

Amplify Your Impact

Faculty:  Mizuho Spangler, Jess Mason, Ross Fisher

This a hands-on workshop encompassing three 25-minute mini topics: “Creating a Podcast,” “Getting Started with Twitter,” and “Creating Visual Aids for Presentations or Social Media Posts.” Participants will cycle through these tech stations, each manned by a team of experts, who will provide an introduction and a chance to practice.
