Maureen (Mo) Canellas, MD, MBA, FACEP is the Associate Chief Medical Officer at UMass Memorial Health, a Research Affiliate at MIT, and an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at UMass Chan Medical School. An emergency physician and nationally recognized leader in healthcare artificial intelligence and emergency department operations, her work focuses on designing, coding, implementing, and evaluating AI algorithms that improve patient flow, hospital capacity, and clinical decision-making. She earned her MBA from MIT after completing emergency medicine residency at the University of Chicago, where she served as chief resident, followed by a fellowship in emergency medicine administration at UMass. Dr. Canellas has delivered invited presentations nationally on artificial intelligence, healthcare administration, leadership, and emergency department operations. Her research has been published in leading emergency medicine and operations management journals, with a particular focus on healthcare AI, systems engineering, and health system performance. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Emergency Department Benchmarking Alliance, where she directs the annual Innovations in Emergency Department Operations conference.
