Dr. Austin is a nationally recognized emergency medicine and simulation educator. Dr. Austin is the Senior Lecturer and Director of the Healthcare Modeling and Simulation Certificate at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. In addition, she is the inaugural Simulation Director for Southwest Healthcare. Her pioneering efforts advocate for simulation as a pivotal tool in healthcare education. She is a Navy veteran and former lieutenant commander. Her career includes a deployment to Iraq and serving at the forefront of emergency medicine at the Navy Trauma Training Center (NTTC) at LA General. She is the Chief Well-being Officer for FemInEM and chair of the American Association of Women Emergency Physicians. She hosts the podcast Heartline: Changemaking in Healthcare, which features the inspirational stories of healthcare changemakers. Her book Revitalized: A Guidebook to Following Your Healing Heartline transcends her personal burnout narrative, offering tangible insights on thriving in a challenging healthcare system.
