Bio

Since 1997, Dr. Loice Swisher has been a nocturnist at Mercy Philadelphia Hospital, an inner-city community hospital associated with the Drexel Emergency Medicine Residency Program. Plans for a highly academic career were radically altered when her daughter (a former extreme preemie- 504 grams) developed a malignant brain tumor. The life-saving surgery completely neurologically devastated her child.

In addition to caring for her child and navigating the medical system, Dr. Swisher combined her parental experience and medical knowledge to develop several online parent support group. Her advocacy culminated as a Patient Representative to the Oncology Drug Advisory Committee of the FDA.

At the time her child reached adulthood, Dr. Swisher returned to pursuing emergency medicine academic interests. Given the personal history it is not surprising that Wellness and Resilience are a passion. She participates in residency, institutional, regional and national resilience committees. She is Chair of the Mental Health Task Force for the Resilience Committee for CORD.

In addition, she is a professional member of the American Association of Suicidology with a goal promoting an environment in which the goal of zero suicides in medicine can become a reality.
