Congratulations to Dr. Ashely Alker for receiving the EMRA Augustine D’Orta Award!  The Augustine D’Orta Award honors a resident physician who demonstrates outstanding community-minded, grassroots oriented political involvement in health policy or community issues.

Dr. Alker is an Emergency Medicine resident at the University of California, San Diego and a nationally published speaker and author. She was born in San Diego, California and attended her undergraduate education at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she played Division I water polo. Dr. Alker then moved to Cyprus to attend Harvard’s institute of public health and spent a year working at the Unit for the Rehabilitation of Victims of Torture. After attending George Washington University School of Medicine in D. C., Ashely worked as a healthcare policy fellow for a Congressman. She is the current president of the emergency medicine Resident Student Association (AAEM/RSA) for the United States.
