Esther is from Fairview Park, Ohio. She completed medical school at Yale University, EM residency at Boston Medical Center and a health services research fellowship at Oregon Health & Science University. She is currently Associate Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine and the Department of Health Services, Policy and Practice at Brown University and Associate Director of Brown's Division of Sex and Gender in Emergency Medicine. Her research focuses on women's health, intimate partner violence, substance use disorders, and technology-based interventions. She is Past President of the Academy of Women in Academic Emergency Medicine, a member of the American Association of Women Emergency Physicians (AAWEP) and Associate Editor of Social Media for the journal Academic Emergency Medicine.
