The Gender Equity in Medicine Research Foundation works to foster and promote gender equity in the field of medicine, and conduct and support research and educational activities aimed at developing and promoting solutions for workplace equity issues in the physician workforce, including but not limited to issues of physician salary transparency, equity in promotion and tenure, workplace policies supporting new parents and increasing women physicians in leadership roles.
In our last grant cycle, we awarded three grants to support three fantastic projects!
Dr. Diane Kuhn received a grant for her work researching anchoring vignettes to identify gender bias in patient satisfaction scores. “Receiving a grant through the Gender Equity in Medicine Foundation has allowed me to pursue research regarding implicit bias as a resident, which I would not have had the resources to do otherwise. The experience helped me solidify my interest in academics and ultimately accept a job that will allow me to continue pursuing my research interests.”
Dr. Reem Hanna was awarded a grant for her research on reducing gender bias in academic medicine with a scripted intervention. “The grant from GEMRF is helping me carry out my project in eliminating gender inequality in grand rounds speaker introductions in my institution and other institutions in the country. Without the funding, I would not be able to conduct this important project. I am thankful that such a grant exists to eliminate the many inequalities found in medicine today.”
The GEMRF is currently raising funds to support our next grant cycle! Five top-notch medical conferences have generously donated conference registration tickets to the foundation to help in this cause: American College of Toxicology Annual Scientific Meeting, CastleFest, Council of Residency Directors, Essentials of Emergency Medicine and Rebellion in EM.
